FAQ

Is Semnote open source?

Yes. The source code is public and free to use. See Licensing for the specific terms.

Can I self-host Semnote?

Yes. We plan to make self-hosting straightforward before v1. In the meantime, your files stay on your own machine — nothing is uploaded unless you choose to.

Who is Semnote for?

Solo professionals, small businesses, and anyone who wants more structure than a blank note without handing documents to a cloud platform by default. If you write regularly and want files you can keep, it is worth trying.

Do you work with clients outside Ireland?

Yes. Leanersoft is based in Ireland and works remotely with clients elsewhere. Most projects run through email, video calls, and shared repositories.

What is the minimum project size?

The smallest scoped service starts around €300 for professional email setup. Custom software work usually starts around €3,000. There is no artificial minimum, but the scope needs to be clear enough to make sense for both sides.

Do you offer fixed-price work?

Yes, when the scope is well-defined. Smaller services like email setup and business websites are quoted as fixed ranges. Custom development can be fixed-price or hourly, depending on how much is known up front.

What kinds of systems do you build?

Web applications, internal tools, integrations, websites, and practical infrastructure — primarily in Elixir and TypeScript. The focus is on systems that can still be understood and maintained after delivery.
